The Ministry of Domestic Trade of the People's Republic of China was a functional department under the State Council of the People's Republic of China, in charge of the circulation of goods nationwide.
On March 1, 1994, in accordance with the "State Council Institutional Reform Plan" approved by the first session of the Eighth National People's Congress (Document No. 33 [1994] of the State Council's Office), the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Materials were dissolved, and the Ministry of Domestic Trade was established.
On March 6, 1998, based on the State Council Institutional Reform Plan approved by the first session of the Ninth National People's Congress, the Ministry of Domestic Trade was reorganized into the National Domestic Trade Bureau, which was managed by the State Economic and Trade Commission.
