About
The Parliament of Canada is the legislative branch of the Canadian government, located in Ottawa at Parliament Hill. It consists of the Monarch (represented by the Governor General), the Senate (108 appointed members), and the House of Commons (338 elected members). The House of Commons is the main center of power, with the monarch’s role being mostly symbolic and the Senate rarely rejecting its bills. The Prime Minister and Cabinet need the House of Commons’ confidence to stay in office.
