Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare (MoA&FW)

The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare (MoA&FW) is the key federal ministry of the Union Government of India responsible for agricultural affairs, headquartered in New Delhi. Originated as the Ministry of Food and Agriculture established in 1947, it was officially renamed in 2015 to highlight farmers' welfare. It consists of two core departments: the Department of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare and the Department of Agricultural Research and Education, formulating and implementing national agricultural policies. Its major responsibilities include boosting agricultural productivity, safeguarding food security, implementing income support for farmers, crop insurance, constructing agricultural markets, popularizing modern farming technologies, and coordinating agricultural research and education. Cooperating with state governments, it carries out farmer-benefiting programmes, manages national agricultural extension systems, advances sustainable agriculture and raises farmers' income.
