This regulation specifies requirements for colorants in plastic packaging and equipment in contact with food in Brazil, including scope, requirements for colorants, and testing for plastic packaging and equipment containing colorants in their formulation and/or printed on plastic packaging and equipment intended to come into contact with food. It is applicable to plastic packaging and equipment containing colorants in their formulation and intended for food contact, as well as dyes used for coloring them, specifying the requirements they must meet and the reference analytical methods for controlling them. The specific migration requirements for metals and other elements specified in section 3.2 of this regulation also apply to printed plastic packaging and equipment unless there is a barrier preventing ink contact with the material's inner surface. For the purpose of this regulation, colorants also refer to colorants consisting of dyes themselves and organic and inorganic pigments added as additives to plastic materials.
