Main Content
The UN GHS, officially known as the "Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals", is also referred to as the "Purple Book". The core of the GHS system consists of the uniform classification and public notification of hazards. The revisions in this eleventh edition involve standards for the classification of aerosols and pressurized chemicals, non-animal methods for skin sensitization classification, classification of substances and mixtures that contribute to global warming, statements of precautionary measures, and the addition of Annex 11, which includes guidelines for the identification of simple asphyxiants. The UN GHS Purple Book primarily discusses the classification of chemical hazards and the dissemination of information. It is applicable to the classification and labeling of chemicals and related tasks.
