On November 22, 2025, Environment and Climate Change Canada and Health Canada completed the assessment of six substances in the "Selected C3-C5 Alcohols Group" under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA). The assessment concluded that these substances do not meet the criteria for harmful substances as defined under Section 64 of CEPA. As a result, no further regulatory action is currently required by the government.

These substances are primarily used in paints and coatings, with additional applications in inks, cleaning products, transportation, cosmetics, food additives, and pharmaceutical manufacturing. The assessment employed the Ecological Risk Classification of Organic Substances (ERC) method, incorporating multiple indicators such as toxicity mode of action, environmental persistence, and bioavailability for risk matrix analysis. The results indicate that the six substances currently pose no significant threat to the ecological environment.
