Time: Nov 1, 2024
EU

On October 30, 2024, a recent investigation by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) Enforcement Forum revealed that about 6% of nearly 4500 cosmetic products inspected across 13 countries in the European Economic Area (EEA) violated regulations on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) and REACH, containing banned hazardous substances. Main prohibited ingredients found include perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), long-chain perfluorocarboxylic acids (PFCAs), D4 (octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane), D5 (decamethylcyclopentasiloxane), perfluorononyl dimethyl siloxane, perfluorooctyl triethoxysilane, and perfluorononyl ethyl carboxydecyl PEG-10 dimethyl siloxane. It prompted regulatory authorities to strengthen the supervision of market cosmetics to ensure their safety and compliance.
