The EU PBT/vPvB Assessment List is an official database maintained by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) to track and publish chemical substances undergoing or having completed assessment for PBT/vPvB properties under Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH). As of June 2026, the latest version of the EU PBT Assessment List comprises 253 unique substances, with a total of 341 assessment entries.
- PBT substances are chemicals that are Persistent, Bioaccumulative and Toxic. Such substances resist degradation in the environment, accumulate in organisms, and exert adverse effects on living organisms or ecosystems.
- vPvB substances are chemicals that are very Persistent and very Bioaccumulative. Even where direct toxicity data may be insufficient, their exceptionally high accumulation potential renders them a significant threat to the environment and human health.
Note: Inclusion in this list does not equate to formal identification as a Substance of Very High Concern (SVHC) or the imposition of regulatory restrictions. Final confirmation of PBT/vPvB properties requires scientific evaluation by ECHA's Risk Assessment Committee (RAC) and Socio-Economic Analysis Committee (SEAC), followed by formal decision-making by the European Commission, before any regulatory measures may take effect.
