The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) was a direct subordinate institution of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, in charge of civil aviation affairs nationwide. The predecessor of the CAAC was the Civil Aviation Administration of China. On April 19, 1993, the Civil Aviation Administration of China was renamed the Civil Aviation Administration of China. On March 23, 2008, in accordance with the "Institutional Reform Plan of the State Council" approved by the first session of the 11th National People's Congress, the Ministry of Transport of the People's Republic of China was established. The Ministry of Transport integrated the responsibilities of the former Ministry of Communications, the former Civil Aviation Administration of China, and the former Ministry of Construction's guidance on urban passenger transport. It also took charge of managing the State Post Bureau and the newly established Civil Aviation Administration of China.
