The People's Bank of China (PBOC), commonly referred to as the People's Bank or the central bank, is the central bank of the People's Republic of China and one of the components of the State Council. Its headquarters is located in Beijing. The main responsibilities of the PBOC include formulating strategies for financial industry reform and development, devising and implementing monetary and exchange rate policies, and acting as the lender of last resort. Before 2018, the People's Bank of China was the world's largest central bank in terms of assets.
