State Food and Drug Administration

The State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) was a direct institution under the State Council, responsible for the comprehensive supervision of food, health products, and cosmetics safety management, as well as the regulation of pharmaceuticals. In March 2013, the State Food and Drug Administration was restructured and renamed the China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA). In March 2018, the CFDA was further restructured, and the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) was established under the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR), with the CFDA no longer being retained.
