Canada Proposes to Regulate PFAS under Environmental Law

A proposal to include perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) (as defined in the PFAS Status Report, excluding fluoropolymers) in Part 2 of Schedule 1 of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA) was opened for a 60-day public comment period, ending on May 7, 2025.

Concurrently released important documents include:

The PFAS Status Report was officially released;

The Risk Management Approach for Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) (excluding fluoropolymers) was also initiated a public consultation, with the review period ending on May 7, 2025.
