The Ministry of Railways of the People's Republic of China was one of the component departments of the State Council in charge of railway affairs.
On March 10, 2013, the Ministry of Railways implemented the separation of railway administration and enterprises. The State Council transferred the administrative responsibilities of the Ministry of Railways for formulating railway development plans and policies to the Ministry of Transport. The National Railway Administration was established, managed by the Ministry of Transport, to undertake the other administrative responsibilities of the Ministry of Railways. The China Railway Corporation was set up to assume the corporate responsibilities of the Ministry of Railways. The Ministry of Railways was no longer retained.
