The predecessor of the China Association of Chemical Safety was the China Association of Chemical Safety and Hygiene Technology. The association was jointly established by four departments: the former Ministry of Chemical Industry, the Ministry of Light Industry, the State Administration of Medicinal Products, and the China National Nonferrous Metals Corporation, and was founded in March 1993. It currently has nearly 480 corporate members, covering more than 90% of key chemical enterprises. In 2005, it was renamed the China Association of Chemical Safety with the approval of the Ministry of Civil Affairs.
