Chemicals—Bioaccumulation in sediment-dwelling benthic oligochaetes

This standard specifies the terms and definitions, essential information and data on test substances, test principles, reference substances, instruments and equipment, test systems, test procedures, test validity, data and reporting for bioaccumulation tests in sediment-dwelling benthic oligochaetes. It is applicable to stable neutral organic compounds (with lgKow values between 3.0 and 6.0, readily associating with sediment), highly lipophilic substances (lgKow greater than 6.0), stable organometallic compounds (readily associating with sediment), and chemicals known with bioaccumulation in organisms (such as surfactants or highly adsorptive substances, i.e., high Koc substances). This standard is not applicable to testing metals and other trace elements if parameters such as benthic substrate and water volume, size of biological tissue samples, etc., are not modified in the test design.
