China Issued Amendment No.2 to "Occupational Exposure Limits for Hazardous Agents in the Workplace— Part 1: Chemical Hazardous Agents"

On May 9, 2024, the National Health Commission of the People's Republic of China issued a notice titled "Announcement on the Release of 'Diagnostic Criteria for Occupational Chronic Vinyl Chloride Poisoning' and Other 13 National Occupational Health Standards and One Standard Amendment" (NHC Notice [2024] No. 9). Included in this notice was the Amendment No. 2 to "Occupational Exposure Limits for Hazardous Agents in the Workplace— Part 1: Chemical Hazardous Agents" (GBZ 2.1-2019).

Amendment No. 2 to "Occupational Exposure Limits for Hazardous Agents in the Workplace— Part 1: Chemical Hazardous Agents" (GBZ 2.1-2019) will come into effect on May 1, 2025. This amendment revises the content of the original standard, primarily adding information about the occupational exposure limit for Alachlor (CAS#34256-82-1), such as adding item 359 in Table 1 of Section 4.1 and item 26 in Appendix B, Table B.1. These additions are applicable to the health design of industrial enterprises and the management, control, and occupational health supervision and inspection of chemical hazards in the workplace.

The revision history of GBZ 2.1-2019 is as follows:

  • "Occupational Exposure Limits for Hazardous Agents in the Workplace— Part 1: Chemical Hazardous Agents" (GBZ 2.1-2019) was issued on August 27, 2019, and implemented from April 1, 2020.
  • On November 8, 2022, the National Health Commission revised it, issuing Amendment No. 1 to "Occupational Exposure Limits for Hazardous Agents in the Workplace— Part 1: Chemical Hazardous Agents" (GBZ 2.1-2019), which came into effect on the date of its release.
  • On May 9, 2024, the National Health Commission made a second revision, issuing Amendment No. 2 to "Occupational Exposure Limits for Hazardous Agents in the Workplace— Part 1: Chemical Hazardous Agents" (GBZ 2.1-2019), which will be implemented starting May 1, 2025.
