The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently announced that nine per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) have been automatically added to the Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) under the provisions of the 2020 National Defense Authorization Act. This act provides a regulatory framework for incorporating PFAS into the TRI for specific EPA activities each year. These nine newly added PFAS will need to be reported in the 2025 TRI reports, with submission of the reporting forms due by July 1, 2026. This addition brings the total number of PFAS listed in the TRI to 205.
