On July 31, 2024, in accordance with the provisions of the Chemical Substances Control Law (CSCL), the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW), the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), and the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) of Japan jointly issued an important announcement, publicizing the names of 164 new chemical substances and the results of their environmental and health impact assessments.
The newly disclosed chemical substances are categorized into two groups based on the notification date: before and after April 1, 2011. Substances listed in the "Japan CSCL-Newly Announced Chemical Substances (notified by April 1, 2011)" refer to chemical substances that were newly manufactured or imported into Japan after this date, and are jointly regulated by the three government departments. These substances are classified as general chemical substances, which are all chemical substances other than priority-assessed chemicals, monitored chemicals, Type I Specified Chemicals, and Type II Specified Chemicals. Companies producing or importing 1 ton or more per year are required to submit annual reports.
