List of Products under Compulsory Certification (BIS)
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is responsible for product certification. In accordance with the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 1986 (BIS Act, 1986), BIS certification scheme is basically voluntary in nature. However, for a number of products compliance to Indian Standards is made compulsory under various considerations such as public interest, protection of human and prevention of unfair trade practices. Products under compulsory certification shall obtain BIS certificates before they are introduced in Indian market.
