China Adjusts Age Limit for Road Transport Personnel Handling Dangerous Goods and Radioactive Materials

On February 6, 2026, China's Ministry of Transport issued two decisions amending the Provisions on the Administration of Road Transport of Dangerous Goods and the Provisions on the Administration of Road Transport of Radioactive Articles.

Decision of the Ministry of Transport to Amend the Provisions on the Administration of Road Transport of Dangerous Goods (Decree No. 6 of 2026 of the Ministry of Transport of the People's Republic of China)

The amended regulation adjusts the original provision stipulating "age not exceeding 60 years old" accordingly:

To apply for a road dangerous goods transport operation, there shall be qualified personnel and safety managers: Drivers of specialized vehicles shall obtain the corresponding motor vehicle driving license and be not older than 63 years of age.

The amended regulation adjusts the original provision stipulating "age not exceeding 60 years old" accordingly:

To apply for a road radioactive materials transport operation, there shall be qualified personnel: Drivers of specialized vehicles shall obtain the corresponding motor vehicle driving license and be not older than 63 years of age.

The two decisions aim to fully leverage the benefits of the delayed retirement policy and actively respond to the concerns of industry practitioners. Both were adopted at the 3rd executive meeting of the Ministry on January 30, 2026, and will come into force on March 20, 2026.
