On July 28, 2026, the European Commission adopted Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/1826, formally amending the List of Approved Active Substances (Implementing Regulation (EU) No 540/2011), extending the approval periods for 21 pesticide active substances by 3 to 42 months to ensure that relevant renewal assessment procedures can be completed before existing authorizations expire.
Core Content: 21 Substances "Granted Extensions"
This extension covers 16 substances listed in Part A and 5 substances listed in Part B of the regulation, spanning multiple categories including fungicides, insecticides, herbicides, and biopesticides. Based on the actual progress of renewal assessments for each substance, the European Commission has set differentiated latest approval expiry dates for each substance:
Part A Substances (16 substances, extended by 3–33 months):
- End of 2026: Pyraclostrobin → December 15
- 2027: Pirimicarb, Cyprodinil → July 31; Phenmedipham, Formetanate, Fludioxonil → September 30; Dichlorprop-P → October 31; Daminozide → December 15; Clomazone → December 31
- 2028: Fosetyl → January 31; Beflubutamid → July 31
- 2029: Aclonifen, Dimethachlor → March 31; Penconazole → February 15; Metazachlor → May 31; Metalaxyl → June 30
Part B Substances (5 substances):
- S-abscisic acid → April 15, 2029
- Bacillus amyloliquefaciens MBI 600 strain → December 1, 2029
- Amisulbrom → March 15, 2030
- Cyantraniliprole → March 14, 2030
- Isofetamid → March 15, 2030
The regulation also includes a "safeguard clause": if the European Commission ultimately decides not to renew approval, the expiry date shall be the later of the date this regulation enters into force or the original expiry date. The regulation was published in the Official Journal of the European Union on July 29, 2026, and entered into force on August 1, 2026, being directly applicable to all Member States.
