On February 9, 2021, the Chilean Ministry of Health issued Decree No. 57, Regulations on the Classification, Labeling, and Notification of Hazardous Chemicals and Mixtures, adopting the UN-promoted Globally Harmonized System (GHS). Chile's GHS aligns closely with the seventh revised edition of the UN GHS but also incorporates certain elements from other revisions. The regulation further includes provisions on the notification of hazardous substances.
Substances with an annual volume equal to or exceeding 1 ton require notification. For components in mixtures, notification is mandatory if they pose health or environmental hazards and their concentrations exceed specified thresholds.
On August 23 of the same year, in accordance with Article 6 of Decree No. 57, the Chilean Ministry of Health published Resolution No. 777/2021 in the Official Gazette, establishing a mandatory classification list of approximately 4,500 substances. This list serves as a minimum reference for Chilean manufacturers and importers in classifying their products. It includes details such as substance names, CAS numbers, hazard classifications, specific concentration limits, M-factors, and Acute Toxicity Estimates (ATE values).
The listed substances have now been incorporated into Chemradar, and users can access relevant information via the "GHS Classification Search" function.
