August 7, 2025 – The South Korean Ministry of Environment has announced a comprehensive revision to the hazardous substances list under the "Act on Registration and Evaluation of Chemicals." The update aims to further refine classification standards and strengthen safety management.
Key changes include:
-
Reclassification: The previous "toxic substances" category has been replaced with three new classifications: "Human Acute Hazardous Substances," "Human Chronic Hazardous Substances," and "Ecologically Hazardous Substances." These are collectively referred to as "Human-Body-Hazardous Substances, etc."
-
New Additions: Following the substance with the unique identifier "2025-1-1247," 37 new toxic substances have been added to the list. These substances are assigned identifiers ranging from "2025-1-1248" to "2025-1-1280."
The Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute (KEITI) or the relevant chemical safety authority stated that this revision is designed to enhance the hazardous substance management system, ensuring businesses can more accurately fulfill their labeling and safety control obligations.
Details of the revised list are available for review on the official Korean government website.
