U.S. Toxics Release Inventory
The U.S. Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) is a publicly accessible database established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under Section 313 of the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA). It requires facilities in specific industries to report their releases, transfers, and waste management activities involving toxic chemicals. The TRI aims to enhance transparency in industrial chemical management and strengthen public awareness and oversight of environmental health. The inventory currently covers 799 individual substances and 33 categories of chemicals, including certain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
