On October 14, 2025, under Section 74 of the Industrial Chemicals Act 2019, the Executive Director of the Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS) officially initiated an assessment of the introduction and use of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in Australia.
The assessment will conduct a detailed review of 522 PFAS listed on the Australian Inventory of Industrial Chemicals (AIIC). The objective is to confirm whether these PFAS are already in circulation within Australia. If introduction is confirmed, further verification will be required regarding the specific quantities imported or manufactured and their actual uses, in order to identify chemicals needing further evaluation.
Who needs to provide PFAS information?
All enterprises that completed AICIS registration between September 1, 2023, and August 31, 2025, will receive a written notice from the Executive Director. Relevant enterprises must check the 522 PFAS on the industrial chemicals inventory, confirm whether they have introduced any of the listed PFAS, and report this to AICIS. If introduction has occurred, detailed information for each chemical must be submitted.
This matter has now been included in the AICIS Rolling Action Plan. To check if specific chemical substances are part of the Australian PFAS List (Reference Number EVA2004), please download and view via the following links:

What information will be required?
- whether the registrant has introduced into Australia, through import or manufacture, any of the listed PFAS
- in respect of any listed PFAS the registrant has introduced, the Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) number and name of the chemical, the mode of introduction (i.e. import and/or manufacture), the total volume introduced, and the end use, and
- in respect of any information that the registrant is not able to provide, the reason(s) why they are not able to provide that information. Registrants will also be asked to voluntarily supply other information that may be relevant to the Executive Director’s evaluation (such as information for earlier registration years).
When must the information be submitted?
The required PFAS information must be submitted within 40 working days of the date of the notice.
