On November 19, 2025, the National Health Commission of China issued an announcement regarding 14 Three New Foods, including Fusarium venenatum protein. In accordance with the Food Safety Law of the People's Republic of China, the evaluation organization convened experts to review and approve the safety assessment materials for 3 substances applying as new food ingredients, 8 substances applying as novel food additives, and 3 substances applying as new varieties of food-related products.
Three New Food Ingredients
- Fusarium venenatum Protein
- Elderberry Anthocyanins
- Olive Fruit Polyphenols
Eight Novel Food Additives
- Branching Enzyme
- β-Alanine
- (6S)-5-Methyltetrahydrofolate, Glucosamine Salt
- 6S-5-Methyltetrahydrofolate Calcium
- Steviol Glycosides (Enzymatic Conversion Method)
- Steviol Glycosides (Fermentation Method)
- 2’-Fucosyllactose
- Calcium Carbonate (Algal Source)
Three New Food Contact Materials
- C.I. Pigment White 21; Barium Sulfate
The National Food Safety Standard for Uses of Additives in Food Contact Materials and Products (GB 9685-2016) has already approved this substance as an additive for use in coatings, paper and paperboard, rubber, inks, adhesives, and various plastic materials and products such as polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP).
This announcement approves the extension of its usage scope to polylactic acid (PLA) plastic materials and products. Based on safety assessment and considering the principle of risk prevention due to insufficient safety data for infant use, materials containing this substance are restricted from being used to produce food contact materials and products specifically intended for infants. They are deemed safe for use by other population groups.
- Talc
The National Food Safety Standard for Uses of Additives in Food Contact Materials and Products (GB 9685-2016) has already approved this substance as an additive for use in coatings, rubber, paper and paperboard, adhesives, and various plastic materials and products such as polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), and polystyrene (PS).
This announcement approves the extension of its usage scope to food-contact polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) plastic materials and products. Based on safety assessment, PHA plastic materials and products containing this substance are safe for use under conditions of room temperature filling followed by long-term storage at room temperature. Considering the principle of risk prevention due to insufficient safety data for infant use, materials containing this substance are restricted from being used to produce food contact materials and products specifically intended for infants.
- 2,2-Bis[[3-[3,5-bis(1,1-dimethylethyl)-4-hydroxyphenyl]-1-oxopropoxy]methyl]-1,3-propanediyl 3,5-bis(1,1-dimethylethyl)-4-hydroxybenzene propanoate; Pentaerythritol Tetrakis(3-(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propionate)

This announcement approves the extension of its usage scope to polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) plastic materials and products. This substance acts as an antioxidant, enhancing the thermal processing stability of PVDF resin. Based on safety assessment, PVDF plastic materials and products containing this substance are safe for use by all population groups under the following conditions: contact temperature not exceeding 70°C, single contact duration not exceeding 24 hours, contact with food surfaces containing no free fat, and ethanol content not exceeding 50%.
