On July 7, 2026, the Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS) issued a notice varying the terms of listing for 2-Pyrrolidinone (CAS 616-45-5) in the Australian Inventory of Industrial Chemicals (AIIC), pursuant to section 86 of the Industrial Chemicals Act 2019. This follows the final evaluation conclusion (EVA00193) issued by AICIS on June 26, 2026, which determined that the risks arising from the introduction of the substance need to be managed through a variation of the inventory terms.

Under the varied terms, once an introducer becomes aware that the chemical is being used for consumer end uses (excluding use in printers and printer cartridges), the introducer must, within 20 working days, report the introduction volume and the end use to the Executive Director of AICIS (under section 101 of the Act). The variation of the inventory terms takes effect on August 4, 2026. Relevant introducers should promptly verify the end uses of their products and fulfil their reporting obligations.
