3 Chemicals Added to Australian Inventory of Industrial Chemicals

In accordance with Section 82 of the Industrial Chemicals Act 2019, the Australian Government announced an update to the Australian Inventory of Industrial Chemicals (AIIC) on September 25, 2024. Prompted by the expiration of a five-year assessment period, this revision welcomed the addition of two new chemical substances. Further details are as follows:

On September 27, 2024, the Australian government updated the Australian Inventory of Industrial Chemicals (AIIC) to include a new substance, adhering to the rigorous requirements of Section 83 of the Industrial Chemicals Act 2019. This ensures comprehensive risk assessments are conducted to protect public and environmental health before market release.

The chemical has been assessed as: 

  • a fragrance component imported into Australia at up to 1 tonne per year
  • imported at up to 85% concentration for local reformulation into finished cosmetic and household products
  •  imported or reformulated as a component of finished end-use cosmetic and household products at up to:
    • 0.3% concentration in spray deodorant
    • 0.6% concentration in fine fragrances
    • 0.5% concentration in leave-on cosmetic products
    • 6% concentration in rinse-off cosmetic products
    • 7% concentration in laundry and cleaning products and in air care products – continuous action
    • 20% concentration in candles
