On 30 October 2026, the Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS) issued a reminder that businesses which, during the 2025–26 registration year (1 September 2025 to 31 August 2026), first introduce chemicals under the exempted categories of polymer of low concern, low-concern biological polymer or very low risk must submit a post-introduction declaration (PID) by 30 November 2026, and that a separate declaration must be submitted for each exempted introduction.

Exempted Introduction Categories Requiring a PID

According to AICIS, registered businesses that introduce chemicals for the first time during the 2025–26 registration year under the following exempted categories must submit a PID by the above deadline:

  1. Polymer of low concern (PLC);
  2. Low-concern biological polymer;
  3. Chemical substances determined under Steps 4 and 5 of the AICIS Categorisation Guide to be of very low risk to both human health and the environment.

Submission Requirements

A PID is a declaration that must be submitted separately in addition to the annual declaration and cannot be replaced by the annual declaration. A PID is a one-time declaration for introducing a chemical: if a PID has already been submitted for the same chemical and the circumstances of the introduction have not changed, you do not need to submit it again. Where a business introduces chemicals under multiple exempted categories that require a PID within the same registration year, a separate declaration must be submitted for each introduction. For example, if a business introduces two chemicals under exemption for the first time in the current registration year, one as a polymer of low concern and the other falling under the very low risk category, two separate PIDs must be submitted. In addition, a PID may be submitted on behalf of the registered introducer (importer or manufacturer) by an entrusted agent or consultant.

ChemRadar Insights

ChemRadar reminds enterprises to check their exempted introduction records for theation year promptly and confirm whether the PID  current registrsubmission obligation has been triggered; those that have must complete the submission before 30 November 2026. As a PID must be submitted separately for each exempted introduction, businesses that introduce chemicals under multiple categories or through multiple exempted introductions should check each item carefully to avoid omissions.
