On 30 June 2026, the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM) issued the revised regulation on food contact materials and articles, BPOM Regulation No.11/2026. This regulation supersedes Packaging Regulation No.20/2019 and shall take effect on the date of issuance. The new regulation revises the lists of permitted and prohibited food contact substances for food packaging.
All food packaging already circulating in the Indonesian market prior to 30 June 2026 shall fully comply with the substance lists and migration limits specified in the new regulation no later than 30 June 2027.
List of Substances Prohibited from Use as Food Packging in Indonesia:
This list contains a total of 142 food contact substances banned from use in food packaging. It applies to additives forming part of food packaging components, such as colorants, plasticizers, adhesives, modifiers, printing inks, stabilizers, antioxidants, solvents, etc.

On 21 July 2026, the China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment (CFSA) issued a notice announcing new varieties of food-related products that have passed the technical review by the Expert Review Committee: C.I. Pigment Black 7, and the reaction product of N,N’-di(octadecanoyl)ethylenediamine, homopolymer of azacyclotridecan-2-one and 1-isocyanatooctadecane.
This assessment proposes to extend the scope of application of the above two substances, and public comments are now invited. The deadline for comment submission is 19 August 2026.
Such food contact materials have been included in the China-National Food Safety Standard-Plastic Materials and Products for Food Contact (GB 4806.7-2023） for your reference.

Update of the China-National Food Safety Standard-Plastic Materials and Products for Food Contact (GB 4806.7-2023） – Extension of Application Scope for Two Additives

On July 21, 2026, the China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment issued a notice, announcing a new food-related product that has passed the technical review by the Expert Review Committee: polymer of methacrylic acid, n-butyl acrylate, cyclohexyl methacrylate, methyl methacrylate, glycidyl methacrylate, hydroxypropyl methacrylate and allyl methacrylate. Public comments on this new product are invited, with the comment deadline set on August 19, 2026.
This type of food contact material has now been included in the list of the "China-National Food Safety Standard for Use of Additives for Food Contact Materials and Products (GB 9685-2016)" for reference.

Update to the China-National Food Safety Standard for Use of Additives for Food Contact Materials and Products (GB 9685-2016) -2 New Substances Added

On 3 February 2026, the European Commission issued Regulation (EU) 2026/245 to amend the EU food contact materials list specified in Regulation (EU) No 10/2011. The amendments cover the revision of Entry 768 and the addition of the following six substances permitted for use in food contact materials:
phosphorous acid, triphenyl ester, polymer with 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol and polypropylene glycol, C10–16 alkyl esters (CAS No.: 1821217-71-3);
calcium tert-butylphosphonate (CAS No.: 81607-35-4);
amines, di-C14–C20-alkyl, oxidised, from hydrogenated vegetable oil (CAS No.: 1801863-42-2);
wax, rice bran, oxidised (CAS No.: 1883583-80-9);
2,2′-oxydiethylamine (CAS No.: 2752-17-2);
wax, rice bran, oxidised, calcium salt (CAS No.: 1850357-57-1).

A substance entry was revised and six substances were added to the EU food contact material list (EU) No 10/2011

The database lists effective premarket notifications for food contact substances that have been demonstrated to be safe for their intended use. The list includes the food contact substance (FCS), the notifier, the manufacturer of the FCS, the intended use, the limitations on the conditions of use for the FCS and its specifications, the effective date, and its environmental decision.
Under section 409(h)(2)(C) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (21 U.S.C. 348 (h)(2)(C)) a food contact substance notification (FCN) is only effective for the manufacturer or supplier identified in the notification. Persons who market a FCS based on an effective notification must be able to demonstrate that the notification is effective for their food contact substance. All persons who purchase a food contact substance manufactured or supplied by a manufacturer or supplier identified in an effective notification may rely on that notification to legally market or use the food contact substance for the use that is the subject of the notification, consistent with any limitations in that notification. FDA authorizes Food Contact Substances by identity, intended use, and conditions of use; the presence of a substance in this list indicates that only certain intended uses and use conditions are authorized by FDA regulations. This list is a compilation of the names of these substances (or combinations of substances in the case of, for example, polymers and resins) found in 21 CFR parts 173, 175 - 178, 179.45, 180.22, 181, and 186. The regulation(s) cited for specific substances should always be consulted to understand the regulatory status of a given substance, its allowed intended uses and conditions of use.
The inventory also contains information on substances listed in 21 CFR 189 that are prohibited from use as food contact substances.

Update to the Switzerland-List of Substances Permitted for the Manufacture of Materials and Objects in Plastic and Related Requirements -Latest Version as of January 2026

Recently, the Consumer Affairs Agency (CAA) of Japan published the latest revision to the Positive List of Food Contact Materials – Base Materials (TABLE 1) on its official website, which introduces the following three adjustments to Appendix 12 "List of Polymers Predominantly Containing Ester Linkages" and Appendix 17 "List of Polymers Predominantly Containing Amide Linkages (Including Polymers with Hexamethylenediamine or 2-Ethyl-2-oxazoline as Primary Monomers":
1. Add 4-hydroxybutanoic acid (CAS No.: 591-81-1) as an essential monomer under Appendix 12, applicable to polymers where the total molar ratio of alcoholic acid monomers is no less than 50% and the main chain is linked by ester bonds;
2. Add 1,5-pentanediamine (CAS No.: 462-94-2) as an essential monomer under Appendix 17, applicable to polymers where the total molar ratio of amine-acid monomers is no less than 50% and the main chain is linked by amide bonds;
3. Relocate the entry "hydrogenated and dimerized unsaturated fatty acids" originally listed under the amines category in Appendix 17 to the acids category.
