The Indian Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers intends to impose strict management on the quality of Polypropylene (PP) using for moulding and extrusion and Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC) homopolymers in accordance with the Bureau of Indian Standards Act (No.11 of 2016), which will be published in the Gazette of India. PP and PVC will be included to products under compulsory certification in accordance with the Quality Control Orders.
In accordance with the latest quality control order. The inclusion of PP and PVC to Indian BIS is to guarantee its legal manufacture and import to India and provide safe and reliable products. Therefore, it is necessary for enterprises to understand whether their products need to obtain BIS Certificate.
Under the latest Quality Control Order, goods or articles specified in the table shall conform to the corresponding Indian Standard. It should be noted that this Order is not applicable to goods or articles for export.

This Order may come into force after 180 days from its publication on the Official Gazette. The BIS is responsible for the oversight of PP and PVC product compliance to Indian Standards.
BIS certification scheme is basically voluntary in nature. However, products compliance to Indian Standards is made compulsory. Therefore, the Indian government takes stringent management measures to product quality control. In this way, a sound market is established. Both consumers and enterprises will benefit from this measure.
